On October 25th, the 2005 China Tire Resources Recycling and Utilization International Forum took place in Beijing, hosted by the China Tire Renovation and Utilization Association and the Ministry of Education's Circular Economy Innovation Base. The event brought together industry leaders, government officials, researchers, and international experts to discuss the future of tire recycling and resource reuse in China.
The forum focused on key issues such as promoting tire recycling, developing relevant laws and policies, advancing technological innovation, and establishing efficient recycling systems. It also aimed to enhance public awareness and improve standards for tire renovation and utilization. A major goal was to create a comprehensive network of used tire recycling centers across the country.
Over the past two decades, China has made significant progress in tire resource recycling. For instance, the production of waste tire rubber powder has reached world-leading levels, and large-scale engineering tire retreading has achieved a breakthrough. Additionally, efforts to refurbish aircraft tires have begun. However, despite these achievements, there are still major challenges compared to global standards. Issues include low recycling rates, high costs, environmental pollution from small-scale facilities, and an imbalance between waste tires and available old tires. The retreading rate remains low, and the application of fine rubber powder is insufficient, indicating a need for better industrial restructuring.
Representatives from the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Transport, State Environmental Protection Administration, and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing attended the forum. More than 300 entrepreneurs from domestic and international tire recycling and utilization industries were also present, showing strong interest in sustainable development and resource efficiency.
