This standard outlines the performance requirements and testing procedures for selection valves used in halogen-based fire extinguishing systems. It specifically applies to Halon 1301 and Halon 1211 fire suppression systems. The standard references GB 795, which details the performance and testing methods for container valves in Halon fire extinguishing systems, and GB 4981, which covers pressure testing for industrial valves.
The term "driving force" refers to the force applied to open the selector valve. "Maximum working pressure" is defined as the highest balance pressure inside a container filled with fire suppressant when exposed to three different temperatures: 50°C, the highest ambient temperature, and the manufacturer’s recommended maximum operating temperature.
The design of the selector valve must meet the operational needs of the Halon system under vibration conditions, ensuring no malfunctions occur. The operating temperature range is set between -20°C and 50°C. If the system requires a broader range, it should be clearly marked.
Materials used for the valve and internal components must be corrosion-resistant, either metallic or non-metallic, and must withstand the test pressures and temperatures specified in this standard.
Performance requirements include strength tests at 1.5 times the maximum working pressure, overpressure tests at 3 times the maximum working pressure, and tightness tests at 1.1 times the maximum working pressure. The valve must also demonstrate reliable operation and minimal local resistance loss, represented by an equivalent pipe length.
Corrosion resistance is evaluated through visual inspection and salt spray testing, while manual operation forces and strokes are measured to ensure ease of use. Testing procedures cover appearance checks, strength, reliability, sealing, equivalent length, corrosion resistance, and manual operation.
Inspection rules require manufacturers to follow quality control procedures and conduct type and factory tests according to specific standards. Marking and packaging guidelines ensure proper identification and protection during transport.
Appendix A provides a detailed test procedure chart, outlining each test step and sample requirements. This standard was developed by the Tianjin Fire Research Institute under the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, with Yang Hong as the principal drafter.
