From the Chi-Town Fire Photos page, here's what happened: I just arrived at a massive scrapyard fire that broke out on Monday at 4430 West 14th Street. Engine 103 was the first unit on scene, responding to a carbon monoxide alarm at a nearby residence while Engine 38 was already dispatched to another fire on the 1400 block of Avers Avenue. Engine 113 quickly joined in, setting up to relay water to Engine 103 so they could start tackling this enormous pile of scrap metal. The firefighting resources committed to this incident included Engine 103 and Engine 113 for active fire suppression, Truck 19 and Truck 26 for ventilation and structural support, Squad 1 for additional manpower and specialized tasks, along with Battalion Chief 18 overseeing operations. The district command structure was represented by 2-2-4. Attached is an image from Chi-Town Fire Photos showing the intense flames consuming the scrapyard. As always, safety remains our top priority, and firefighters worked tirelessly under challenging conditions to bring this blaze under control. I’ll keep you updated if any new details emerge about how the fire started or any potential damage assessments once the situation stabilizes. Stay tuned!
