We recently completed a state-of-the-art mobile command center for the City of Naperville in Illinois. The vehicle is built on a Freightliner M2 106 conventional single rear axle chassis with a 33,000 GVWR. It's powered by a powerful Cummins L9 360HP diesel engine and paired with an Allison 3000 EVS automatic transmission for smooth performance. The all-aluminum body includes two custom flat-floor slide-outs, designed and fabricated in-house to maximize interior space and functionality.
The vehicle is equipped with our proprietary Intel-I-Touchâ„¢ vehicle automation system, allowing for seamless control of lighting, climate, and other systems from a central interface. We also added an exterior charging station, a durable workstation, and Extreme Duty body storage compartments for efficient equipment management. A non-locking rear pneumatic mast was installed, complete with perimeter surveillance cameras to enhance situational awareness on the scene.
To ensure stability during operations, a vehicle leveling system was integrated. For security and convenience, a TriMark keyless entry system with remote RF transmitter fobs was added. Exterior emergency and scene lighting from Whelen provides visibility and safety, while a custom pull-out aluminum stair cassette allows easy access to the vehicle.
Inside, the front work area features two sets of café-style seating, all custom-made in-house for staff use. Magnetic surface dry erase whiteboards line the side walls for quick note-taking and planning. A 55-inch high-resolution display is mounted on the front wall, along with two additional 32-inch monitors for enhanced visibility and communication.
The center of the vehicle houses a large electronics rack and a closet with adjustable shelving for storage. Magnetic soft-close pocket doors provide privacy when needed. The rear conference room includes a center table with six spider base task chairs, and a curbside rear slide-out adds two more workstations. A 65-inch high-resolution monitor is mounted on the streetside wall, and a 55-inch Vibe smartboard with a conferencing camera is installed on the rear wall for collaboration and remote meetings.
The HVAC system consists of three low-profile ducted rooftop A/C units and two direct discharge diesel-fired furnaces for optimal climate control. A 20kW liquid-cooled diesel generator ensures ample power for all onboard systems. A full vehicle surge suppression system protects sensitive electronics, and a Will-Burt Night Scan LED telescoping light tower enhances night operations. Four perimeter IP cameras provide comprehensive surveillance, while an Extron 4K 16×8 video matrix switcher manages all video sources efficiently.
