On Wednesday morning, Palatine firefighters responded to a fire at the Woodhaven apartments located at 15 B Dundee Quarter Drive. Engine 82 arrived first and spotted heavy flames on the third floor as they entered from Dundee Road. They immediately initiated a blitz attack using their deck gun while crews laid lines for an interior assault. The attic was fully engulfed, with flames visible through the roof. As additional units from Palatine arrived, more lines were brought inside, and the bulk of the fire was quickly brought under control. The building featured a mansard roof, which raised concerns about hidden fire and the potential for it to spread across fire walls into adjacent structures. Ventilation holes were cut into the B-side mansard, and flames were again seen coming through the roof. At that point, Arlington Heights Tower 1 was preparing to deploy a master stream, but it was ultimately not needed. Interior crews handled the remaining fire, and a master stream from Palatine Quint 83 was used briefly to wash down the exterior in sector A. Firefighters from Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, and Rolling Meadows all assisted at the scene. The incident highlighted the challenges posed by the complex roof design and the need for coordinated efforts among multiple departments. Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries were reported, and the situation was successfully contained.
