Captain Jake Ringering of the Godfrey Fire Protection District passed away at the age of 37 after being struck by a falling brick wall while responding to a residential fire on Culp Lane. His funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with multiple fundraising efforts underway to support his family and fellow firefighter Luke Warner, who was seriously injured during the incident.
The fire occurred at 4604 Culp Lane in Bethalto, and investigators are still on-site, with the probe expected to continue through next week. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday, March 11, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., followed by a walk-through by members of the Godfrey Fire Protection District at 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, led by Rev. Jeremy Paulin.
Memorials can be made to the Jake Ringering Family through Carrolton Bank, located at 120 Homer Adams Parkway in Alton, Illinois. In addition to this fund, several community fundraisers have been organized, including events at the Godfrey McDonald’s on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Bakers & Hale on Monday, March 11, at 11:00 a.m., and Roma’s Pizza in Bethalto from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Donations are also being accepted at police departments in Alton, Bethalto, East Alton, Jerseyville, and Wood River.
