September 23, 2017 – At approximately 0645 hours, the 5th Battalion and several companies were dispatched to a reported incident. While en route, the Englewood Fire Alarm Officer (FAO) issued a Still & Box at the location due to reports of people trapped inside a building. Engine Company 84 and Truck Company 51 arrived first and found heavy fire in the rear of a three-story ordinary apartment building. Battalion 5 arrived shortly after and confirmed fire extending through the roof. A 2-11 alarm was called by 2-2-1, who ordered all companies to evacuate the structure due to dangerous fire conditions. Five 2-1/2 inch lines were deployed, while Tower Ladder 37 and Squad Company 5’s Snorkel operated elevated master streams. Engine Companies 84, 45, and 50 used their deck guns to combat the fire. Due to structural instability, search operations could not be completed. Firefighters also faced high humidity and temperatures in the mid-80s. Still Alarm companies involved: E84, E47, T51, T30, BN5, Sq5, 2-7-5, RIT, BN6, T15, A55, A36, 4-5-8.
