Hey everyone, This just came in from Drew Gresik regarding an incident that happened earlier today. On May 22nd, 2017, the Chicago Fire Department’s 23rd Battalion responded to a Still Alarm at 88th and Eberhart due to reports of a house fire. Engine Company 82 and Truck Company 42 were the first responders on the scene, where they found a two-story, wood-frame building at 501 East 88th Street fully engulfed in flames, particularly on the second floor and in the attic area. The firefighters quickly got to work, deploying three hose lines and positioning two main ladders onto the roof. It took them roughly an hour and a half to bring the situation under control. The structure was occupied at the time, but unfortunately, one family lost their home in this fire. A number of units were involved in the operation, including Engine 82, Engine 122, Truck 42, Tower Ladder 34, Battalion 23, Squad 5, Rescue Task Force 2-7-5, Tower Ladder 30, Battalion 19, Air Units 37 and 60, along with additional support vehicles. For those interested in seeing more photos from the scene, you can check out Drew's website. Here are a few images he captured during the event: - A firefighter post-overhaul shot showing the aftermath of the fire. - Multiple shots of various Chicago fire trucks arriving and working at the scene. - Close-ups of specific apparatus like Truck 45 and Engine 82. - Wide-angle views capturing the scale and intensity of the blaze. - Final images documenting the remains of the burnt-out structure. Stay safe out there, folks. Firefighting is tough work, and it’s always good to see these brave men and women in action. Best regards, -Drew Gresik P.S. If anyone has any leads or updates, feel free to drop me a line. I’m always looking to connect with people who want to share stories or insights about emergency services in our city.
