A portion of I-355 was shut down on Thursday morning after a small plane made an unexpected landing on the highway near New Lenox. The incident occurred in the southbound lanes, causing a major disruption to traffic and prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
Illinois State Police were called to the scene after a white Beechcraft aircraft, reportedly experiencing mechanical difficulties, made an emergency landing. According to officials, the pilot and three young women—aged 15, 20, and 21, all from Wilmington, Illinois—were aboard at the time. All four individuals are currently receiving medical attention, with three of them being treated for back injuries at Silver Cross Hospital. Doctors are conducting further checks to ensure no serious harm was done.
