Recently, FAW Eaton Transmission Co., Ltd., a joint venture between China's FAW Group and the U.S.-based Eaton Corporation, officially launched in front of its original transmission branch. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Assistant Governor Xu Jianyi of Jilin Province, Zhang Anshun, Vice Mayor of Changchun City, Yan Yanfeng, General Manager of FAW Group, Zhao Fangkuan, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Mr. Jim Sweitner, Senior Vice President of Eaton Corporation and President of its Truck Division. Xu Jianyi, along with Dong Chunbo, Deputy General Manager and Chairman of FAW Group, and Paul Frank, General Manager of FAW Eaton Transmission Co., Ltd., delivered speeches at the event. The collaboration between FAW and Eaton has been in the works for five years, culminating in the signing of a "Joint Venture Contract" in Changchun on March 31 this year. After extensive negotiations and collaborative efforts, the joint venture is now officially operational. The project involves a total investment of $100 million, with registered capital amounting to $57 million. In addition to continuing the production of FAW’s well-established and widely used gearbox series, the joint venture will also introduce and sell Eaton’s globally popular and newly developed transmissions. These products feature advanced synchronizer technology, higher torque capacity, and a broader range of gear options, from 5th to 10th gears. With torque outputs ranging from 530Nm to over 1800Nm, the product line covers both high-end and low-end markets. The joint venture offers seven distinct product series, encompassing more than 600 different model platforms. These gearboxes not only meet the current needs of FAW vehicles and replacement parts but also provide high-quality transmissions for both trucks and passenger cars. Moreover, the partnership allows FAW to access continuous technological innovation and product development from Eaton, enhancing its competitive edge in both domestic and international markets. Some of the products will be exported, further strengthening FAW Eaton Transmission’s position in the global automotive industry.
