March 14, 2018 Bristol, WI This message is from Jeff Rudolph. He just sent me some details about an intense fire response he witnessed in Bristol, Wisconsin. A house fire broke out on 177th Street and quickly escalated to a third alarm situation. Several Illinois fire departments were called in under the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Box 52-6 to help manage the situation. From what Jeff described, the fire was quite devastating. The images he shared really capture the intensity of the event. You can see the massive damage done to the house, with flames consuming everything in their path. It’s heartbreaking to think about the loss experienced by the family who lived there. Looking at the photos Jeff took, it’s clear that this was no small fire. Firefighters had their hands full, working tirelessly to contain the blaze. I especially noticed the Lake Villa Fire Protection District's tender being deployed, which must have been crucial for managing the water supply given the scale of the fire. Similarly, the Grayslake Fire Protection District’s tanker and the Antioch First Fire District’s water tender were also on-site, highlighting the extensive support network these departments have in place. One particularly striking image shows the Bristol Fire Department drafting water from a portable tank. This technique is often used when regular water supplies aren’t accessible or sufficient, and it speaks volumes about the firefighters' resourcefulness and determination. In addition to the firefighting efforts, aerial support was provided by the Gurnee Fire Department’s tower ladder. That must have been essential for reaching high points of the building and preventing the fire from spreading further. Overall, it’s clear that this fire required a coordinated effort from multiple departments. Jeff did an amazing job capturing the scene and sharing these photos. His documentation really helps convey the scale and seriousness of the incident. I hope the families affected by this fire find some comfort in knowing how many people came together to try and help them during such a difficult time. Jeff Rudolph Bristol, WI P.S.
