Shandong Zibo Qilu First Fertilizer Co., Ltd. has made a significant investment of over 7 million yuan to enhance its production process by introducing advanced energy conversion technology. The company has installed synthetic ammonia tail gas ammonia recovery systems and gas recovery equipment, marking a major step forward in environmental protection and resource efficiency. As China's first medium-sized nitrogen fertilizer plant that produces synthetic ammonia from oil refining waste gas, Qilu Chemical Fertilizer Co., Ltd. annually produces 120,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, 200,000 tons of urea, and 20,000 tons of methanol. For many years, the challenge of managing tail gas—particularly the release of purge gas—has been a persistent issue for the industry. Purge gas is a complex mixture containing ammonia, methane, nitrogen, and hydrogen, which is released during the decompression of liquid ammonia in the production process. Traditionally, nitrogen fertilizer companies have used water absorption methods to recover ammonia, but this approach not only lowers the value of the recovered ammonia but also consumes large amounts of steam, leading to inefficiencies. In recent years, Qilu Chemical Fertilizer Co., Ltd. conducted extensive research and feasibility studies, investing heavily in upgrading its facilities. The new system breaks away from traditional methods by incorporating high-tech energy converters and cryogenic technology to recover liquid ammonia without using any external energy. This innovative approach allows the company to extract ammonia from the purge gas and use it directly in urea production, significantly improving the value of the recovered material. The new system not only enhances the added value of ammonia in the exhaust gas but also reduces water and electricity consumption while addressing pollution concerns. According to reports, before the installation of the new system, the ammonia content in the original tank was around 25%. After implementation, the ammonia content in the tail gas dropped to approximately 4%. The system can recover 3 to 4 tons of liquid ammonia daily, resulting in an annual efficiency increase of nearly 2 million yuan. This advancement demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainable development and technological innovation in the chemical industry.
