Anhui Chlor-Alkali Chemical Group made a bold decision to abandon the traditional heavy oil and hydrogen mixed combustion system used in its caustic soda production line. Instead, the company initiated a technological transformation, introducing a new hydrogen-burning method that involved venting. This innovative approach led to a profit of over 2.5 million yuan in 2005, marking a significant turning point for the company. The caustic soda production process, which required a total investment of 30 million yuan, was officially launched in July 2002. However, the old system faced numerous challenges. The heavy-oil blending combustion mode had complex chain protection mechanisms, leading to frequent shutdowns and failure to meet production targets. Each restart caused thermal shock due to large temperature differences, which shortened equipment lifespan and resulted in unstable product quality. Additionally, excessive black smoke emissions contributed to local environmental pollution. In response to these issues, the chlor-alkali group sought global best practices and studied successful models from other companies. In April 2005, with guidance from Swiss experts, the company invested an additional 450,000 yuan in technical upgrades. By utilizing hydrogen generated from the electrolysis process, the company implemented a 100% hydrogen combustion model. This not only resolved the previous problems of frequent equipment downtime and pollution but also created a more sustainable and efficient production cycle. As a result, the rate of high-quality products increased from 95% to 99%. The new system no longer relied on steam atomized heavy oil, instead using 10 million cubic meters of hydrogen annually for ventilation. To date, this transformation has saved the company over 2 million yuan, proving the long-term benefits of innovation and environmental responsibility.
