China's coal resources are relatively abundant, and the development of coal to syngas production of ethanol is of great significance in replacing the traditional food fermentation ethanol production route and improving China's energy security. According to experts, the cost of coal-to-ethanol production can be maintained at around RMB 4,300/ton, which is lower than the cost of grain ethanol and cellulosic ethanol.

The Thorpe Group's syngas-to-ethanol project utilizes a silica-based catalyst with low antimony content to convert, hydrogenate, and separate coal-derived synthesis gas. The resulting ethanol product meets the industrial ethanol premium grade standard and also reaches ethanol The standard. In March of this year, the project completed the project task report. The coal-to-ethanol project has been supported by two national high-tech development plans, indicating that the project is in line with the development direction of the national coal clean and efficient use and the industrialization prospect is bright.

It is understood that the project involves Thorpe Group, Dalian Institute of Chemical Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd. to carry out a complete set of technical research and project construction. A number of technologies have reached the international advanced level. At present, they have applied for nearly 10 invention patents and have obtained 3 authorizations. .
