Recently, the world's power and automation giant ABB announced the launch of its first fast DC charger in line with the Chinese GB standard, the charger model is Terra 53 Z. The charger is scheduled to be manufactured at ABB's Shenzhen facility. The plant is a newly established ABB company specializing in the production of electric vehicle chargers.
The Terra 53 Z Fast DC Charger can be used in a wide range of public charging stations, dedicated parking spaces for electric vehicles, and highway rest service stations to provide charging services for all electric-powered passenger cars, minibuses, and logistics electric vehicles. By using this fast charger, an ordinary electric car can guarantee to continue driving for 100 kilometers after 20 minutes of charging.
The fast DC charger is the world's first fast DC charger that is also compliant with SAE Combo, CHAdeMo and China GB electric technology standards. Among them, SAE Combo was jointly promoted by eight major European and American automobile companies. CHAdeMo was developed by major Japanese automakers such as Toyota and Nissan. The introduction of the Terra 53 Z fast DC charger also made ABB's Terra 53 series the world's number one. At present, ABB's Terra 53 series has been applied to projects in several overseas countries. This includes the nationwide electric vehicle charging network project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
In addition to the introduction of the above-mentioned fast DC chargers, ABB also plans to equip its offices in Shanghai and Shenzhen with electric vehicle charging equipment, which is designed to facilitate the local staff working on electric vehicles to solve the daily charging problems of the vehicles. In addition, ABB also said it will equip its company's fleet with electric vehicles.
In 2013, ABB established a localized R&D team in China, whose main job is to lead the electric vehicle charging business, including R&D, production, logistics and after-sales. ABB also said it will continue to introduce DC charging systems in line with China's GB and will conduct local production at the ABB Shenzhen plant.
