This is a report from Eric Haak:

On Sunday afternoon (June 2), firefighters from Chicago’s 6th Battalion faced a challenging rescue situation at the intersection of 53rd and Union. A tree trimmer became stuck upside down at a moderate height with a broken leg. Truck 18 positioned itself to use its ladder to support the victim while Squad 5 and Tower Ladder 39 arrived on scene to provide additional assistance.

With the man's weight supported by Truck 18’s aerial device, the team began the delicate process of carefully untangling him. Eventually, Tower Ladder 39 was able to maneuver its basket beneath the victim and safely lower him to the ground. The entire operation took approximately 45 minutes.

The only available access for Tower Ladder 39 was through a vacant lot that had become very soft due to heavy rain. To stabilize their equipment, firefighters used fence posts that were being installed in the lot. This creative use of available resources helped ensure the safe and successful completion of the rescue.

These photos, taken by Eric Haak, capture key moments during the operation, including the injured worker hanging from the tree and the firefighters working together to bring him to safety.
