This is a report from Eric Haak:

On Sunday afternoon, June 2nd, Chicago Fire Department's 6th Battalion faced a challenging rescue situation at the intersection of 53rd and Union. A tree trimmer became stuck upside down at a moderate height with a broken leg. Truck 18 quickly arrived on the scene and used its ladder to support the victim while Squad 5 and Tower Ladder 39 made their way to assist.

With the man’s weight being supported by the aerial ladder of Truck 18, firefighters began the careful process of untangling him. Eventually, Tower Ladder 39 was able to position its basket underneath the victim and lower him to safety. The entire operation took approximately 45 minutes.

The only access available to Tower Ladder 39 was through a nearby vacant lot that had become very soft due to recent heavy rains. To stabilize their equipment, firefighters used fence posts that were being installed in the lot. This added complexity to the rescue, but the team managed it with precision and care.

Eric Haak captured several photos of the incident, showing the dramatic moment the worker was suspended, as well as the firefighters in action. These images highlight the teamwork and professionalism of the crews involved in this successful rescue.
