The first photo shows Engine 48’s station on the far right, with a major 5-11 fire burning just across the elevated tracks. The second image is a close-up of what I believe is the very first Snorkel basket that Bill Post mentioned a few weeks ago. This fire was a 3-11 alarm on November 2, 1959, at 1109 W. 63rd Street. It’s quite rare to see an early Snorkel in action, especially in such a dramatic setting.
