On February 5, 1878, Citroen founder Andre Citroen was born in a wealthy family in Paris, France. Since childhood, Andre has enjoyed watching the science fiction of Jules Verne, the famous French novelist, and has been influenced by the novel and has developed a strong interest in science.
In 1900, André graduated with honors from the Polytechnic University of Paris. In 1905, Andrey discovered a herringbone gear cutting method during his trip to Poland. He purchased the patent and returned to the country to establish the Citroen gear factory. However, Andre is not content to only produce gears, and he has even greater lofty ideals.
Afterwards, Andre purchased Mors Motors, a company that had once been in turmoil but had faced closures due to poor management, and turned it into a profit in just one year. In 1912, Andre went to Detroit to visit the Ford plant. Inspired by Ford's advanced concept of building cars, he wanted to replicate the myth of the Ford Model T in France.
During World War I, Andrei expanded the size of the company by producing shells. At the same time, he also secretly convened a team of engineers to start R & D to produce cars by assembly line. In 1919, the Citroen brand 's first car, Type A, was officially launched.
Citroen Type A is Europe's first car produced with assembly lines. The car is powered by a 1.3-liter water-cooled engine with a maximum power of 10 hp. It is equipped with a 3-speed manual gearbox and a maximum speed of 65km/h. Citroen Type A sold for 7,950 francs, which was a very attractive price at the time.
