Grayslake Fire Protection District has recently acquired a 1988 Pierce Dash 1250-GPM, 2500-gallon tanker that was previously in service with the Libertyville Fire Department since 2010. The unit was originally purchased new by the Countryside Fire Protection District in 1988 and served them for many years before being transferred to Libertyville. Now, after a long career, it's finding a new home in Grayslake, continuing its legacy of service.
The tanker, known as Tanker 4 112 during its time with Countryside, has a rich history behind it. It’s been seen on multiple occasions providing support at fires and other emergency incidents. Below are some images capturing the vehicle in different stages of its service life.
The first photo shows the original 1988 model, still in its early years with Countryside FPD. Another image captures the same truck while it was part of Libertyville FD, now labeled as Tender 461. There are also shots of the truck being used to support engine companies during fire operations, highlighting its role as a critical resource in emergency response.
Recently, the tanker was photographed in its new home with Grayslake FPD, showing how it continues to serve the community. These photos, taken by Larry Shapiro and Jeff Rudolph, provide a visual timeline of this historic piece of equipment and its journey through several departments over the decades.
