Building New Countryside Makes Agricultural Machinery Industry Regain Development Opportunities
The "Several Opinions on Promoting the Construction of a New Socialist Countryside," recently released, marks the third document issued by the Party Central Committee and the State Council since 2004 to guide agricultural and rural development. This year's No. 1 document highlights the importance of accelerating the construction of new rural areas and modern agriculture, emphasizing the need for stronger industrial support. It calls for enterprises to establish agricultural science and technology research centers, with government support in finance, taxation, and technological transformation. The focus is also on promoting agricultural mechanization, especially in key seasons, crops, and regions, while improving infrastructure and farmland water management. These initiatives set clear expectations for the agricultural machinery industry.

Agricultural machinery should evolve toward energy-efficient and low-impact designs. Supporting aquaculture and addressing rural employment issues will require specialized processing equipment, which can help reduce migration and promote urbanization.
In recent years, government subsidies have driven significant growth in the agricultural machinery sector. From 2002 to 2005, the industry saw consistent growth, with an average increase of 20.7% in the first three years and over 30% in 2005. In 2005 alone, the industry's output value reached 108.322 billion yuan, a 31.61% rise, while sales revenue hit 105.816 billion yuan, up 35.7%. This made the agricultural machinery industry one of the fastest-growing sectors in the machinery industry.
This year, the government has doubled subsidy funds to 600 million yuan, expanding coverage to over 1,080 counties and increasing the range of eligible equipment. With more farmers benefiting from these subsidies, demand for large and medium-sized tractors, harvesters, and other machinery continues to grow. Companies must not only focus on production but also invest in R&D and technological upgrades to meet evolving needs and better address the "three rural issues."
